LIBRARY

At the core of every well-planned school, is a school library. A school library is more than a room full of books with librarians. Librarians do more than check-in, check-out, and shelve books. The HASIS library, although small, is a work in progress. While there are four goals of the school library, its chief goal is to support the curriculum within our school. Just as students go to science laboratories to explore and learn about the word around them in a safe and structured environment, school libraries should be viewed no differently. Students are encouraged and guided in their exploration of and learning about the world around them. School libraries are an extension to learning in our classrooms.

The other three goals we strive to achieve are as follows:

  • To help our students become effective, ethical, and discriminating users of information
  • To foster a love of and appreciation for reading
  • To instill idea that libraries are for lifelong learning

Our teacher-librarians are here to assist the students in becoming independent, life-long learners who can search, locate, evaluate, and utilize information for their individual needs. As citizens of the world, each of us must be conscientious of internationally-recognized copyright laws and strive to present our schools, our cities, our countries, our families, and our religions in the best possible light by adhering to certain rules so as to avoid plagiarism. The librarians are available in the library each day and as teacher-librarians, they fill two roles within the school: teachers and librarians. They extend classroom curriculum through cooperative lessons planning with all teachers within the school. In this way, library-specific skills can be taught through subject matters already familiar to students, hence extending their classroom learning environment.t the core of every well-planned school, is a school library.
